Seriously.. does self coaching really work?

Let’s first consider the following universal principle…

We all start life in the role of coachee and at some point in our lives we develop the skills to coach others.

As parents, children, friends, partners, leaders, colleagues, and neighbours we live the bulk of our lives either in the role of coachee or acting as a coach. Would you agree?

With so much practice giving and receiving coaching one would assume we eventually develop the skills to autonomously coach ourselves without the assistance of a coach.

Yet, how many times have you noticed that you are stuck in a rut, your business is stalled, your  life has not changed much compared to last year? or maybe something even worse!

You have a desire to be more authentic, believe in yourself, achieve your goals, and live your ideal life – and even though you might be a coach or worked with a coach – things don’t change or improve.

So what stops us from autonomously coaching ourselves?

As a coach since 2010, I have noticed two usual suspects: #1 is not walking our own talk… (saying we will do something, or change something, or be dedicated to changing something and not doing it). And #2 is that trying to coach ourselves does not work. Which one is it?
